(London, 30/01/2020) Gulf Development International Ltd. (GDI) and IAMC Health are pleased to announce that the parties have entered into a joint venture for the development of the International Academic Medical Center (IAMC) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The IAMC project addresses several critical issues relating to Saudi healthcare delivery. The IAMC master plan is anchored by a 300-bed rehabilitation teaching hospital, a medical school and health sciences university, and a state-of-the-art simulation and research facility. The campus will also include an outpatient rehab facility, a 4-star hotel, residential and student housing, and commercial space. The joint venture is partnering with the top rehabilitation hospital in the U.S., one of the world’s largest health sciences universities, a world-class research and simulation company, and world-class designers and engineers to deliver the IAMC project.
In the past two years, GDI has been working to identify large-scale projects that align with Vision 2030’s goals and objectives. The IAMC project is predicated on the need to increase the number of hospital beds in KSA by 35,000 over the next 10 years and to provide care for an aging and growing population. Additionally, the IAMC project will help address the need for Saudi health clinicians, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, among other disciplines.
The hospital will be designed to expand and accommodate the expected growth that a world-class tertiary care academic research facility would expect. The health sciences university will establish a Saudi-based curriculum based on the best aspects of international methods, including both the U.S. and European health sciences education models, creating a hybrid that will be the world-class standard for medical academia. The research and simulation center will provide state-of-the-art training, including aspects of virtual and augmented reality and distance learning, to support several universities in the region.
“GDI is pleased to bring this project to the Kingdom. It aligns closely with several initiatives of the Vision 2030 doctrine and will change the way healthcare is administered in Saudi Arabia,” said George Creel, Group CEO of GDI. “This project will help achieve Vision 2030 objectives by introducing world-class rehabilitative healthcare integrated into a teaching and research environment, creating better patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs to the Kingdom.” said Tom Berwanger, Project Director for the IAMC Health project.
